The Maine Venture Fund is an investment fund that focuses exclusively on promising growth companies. The fund considers Maine-based companies in all stages of their life cycle and in almost all industry sectors that can demonstrate potential for significant growth and public benefit.
Our portfolio companies receive business advice, technical assistance, and access to an extensive network throughout Maine, New England, and beyond.
Our typical initial investment is $100,000-$300,000 per company, with additional capital available to continue to support the company.
The Maine Venture Fund’s investment terms tend to be more patient than the terms offered by larger venture funds. We can purchase a range of investment securities, most typically preferred stock or convertible debt.
The Maine Venture Fund considers each company and investment opportunity on an individual basis.
In addition to having significant operations in Maine, a company must meet these criteria:
Employ 50 or fewer people, or have gross sales of $5,000,000 or less within the past 12 months
Demonstrate a viable plan for providing a return on investment for the Maine Venture Fund and other investors
Provide evidence of the need for financial assistance to realize its projected growth and achievement of public benefit, including but not limited to Maine-based job growth and retention
Receive co-investment in an amount at least equal to the investment amount sought from the Maine Venture Fund
